IF LIFE is like Alan Watts’ story where God is playing a game of hide and seek with himself, then why should we be bothered if we have misguided faith and believe in false gods. Does what we think and do matter at all? What difference does it make if in reality we are all the one God playing a game with himself?
Could it be that one of God’s purposes is to get to know himself in form, (through us, our individual selves) as a physical body experiencing a physical world?
Sure, he knows himself in spirit, after all he’s been with himself for all eternity, but maybe, because the finite world is forever changing, he is continually learning new things about himself as a finite being, because his hiding and seeking self (us) is also forever changing.
Maybe the world’s continuing appearances and disappearances *(there are times when the world is, and times when it isn’t) allows God a fresh start each game, a time to get re-acquainted with his physical selves, and because the world of matter is by nature unpredictable, maybe each game of hiding and seeking himself is different.
The statement, *(‘it’s not impossible that God’s play (or plan) will be to remain unawakened in most of his human disguises’) may explain why so few of us still continue to question life while most others have no interest at all?’
Walk amongst any crowd and notice the expressions on the faces of the people passing by. They may be physically there, but mentally they are off in their own little world with all its accompanying memories, worries, apprehensions, judgments and desires.
Their childhood questions *(‘Where did the world come from?’ ‘Why did God make the world?’ ‘Where was I before I was born?’ ‘Where do people go when they die?), has long since been relegated to the back of their mind, marked unimportant and of no relevance in their busy social schedule.
Most will never have the inclination to stop and think that the world might be completely different than it is in the narrow, blinkered ego cocoon that surrounds them. Why then, do the few of us have this compulsion to continue to question?...
